Slalom is a back and forth motion of the wheel at medium speeds (60-70mph) which helps bring the rear of the car around the cones better. I feel the HICAS helps in autocrossing cuz the turns are tighter and speed is much lower as compared to a road course. On a road course you're holding the wheel through constant sweeper turns at 80-90mph and if the rear end starts to move around on you that's not a very encouraging feeling. :)
